Everyone has had accomplishments in their life, and behind those accomplishments is someone who has had an impact on their life. My mother is my greatest influence for several reasons. She supports me, and the decisions I make, showed me that success comes from hard work, she inspires me and taught me to always believe in myself. Whenever I am faced with a problem and have to make a decision, I know that my mother will be behind me one-hundred percent no matter what avenue I choose to travel down is. It is a great feeling to know that someone is always going to support me in anything I choose to do. It alleviates much of the stress that comes along with making decisions. For example, when I could not make a decision and choose…show more content…

Success comes from hard work, energy, dedication, and a support system. My mother is one of my biggest support systems and examples. During my first semester at college, my goal was to earn an A as a grade in my Anatomy and Physiology class for multiple reasons. One reason was because I strive for great grades, and after I received a grade I was not happy with, my mother was there to boost up my morale and to encourage me to try different studying methods that would be beneficial in the course. After trying out new study methods and having more confidence in myself I was able to raise my average to an A. By studying hard, and having dedication with this class, I was able to succeed. My mother inspires me to do well in school because she had it a lot harder than me. She was the only one in her family to go to college, and to graduate as a registered nurse. She knows how challenging the courses are in the medical field and is well aware of the challenges I am faced with in the classes. She worked a full-time job while attending school, to pay her way through college. I admire her dedication she had towards herself and her future. She believed in herself that she could get through college and become a nurse, and she did.
In conclusion, I have been influenced by my mother to do well in not only school, but in life. She has taught me that in order to

My Hero: Mom - With A Free Essay Review

What is a hero? A hero in my eyes is someone who is strong, wise, helpful, and caring. Christine portrays all of these wonderful qualities. She is the greatest daughter, Mom, and Grandma to be around and look up to.

To be a hero you have to be strong and wise. Christine knows how to help me out of tough times by staying strong and using her knowledge to guide me in the right direction. She has gone through so many of life’s obstacles that she knows from experience how to help me. When times get tough a hero never stops, they keep pushing through to stay strong for others. Christine never shows her weakness, she is always positive about everything. She tries her hardest to get others to a better place. All of her kids come to her when we need her wisdom with something, such as schoolwork, friends and relationship drama. A hero is always there for you when you need them most and my mom has never left my side.

Being helpful is one of the main characteristics of a good hero. Not only is Christine a hero at home because she is helpful, but also at her work. She is a first grade teacher; so every day she is constantly helping her children. She always comes home with stories of how she helped one of her students learn to read or write. One day after a long stressful day at work, cooking dinner, and cleaning up the house, my mom still offered to help me study for a chemistry exam the next day. She didn’t complain about being tired at all, she just wanted to make sure I passed the exam. She does this because she loves the satisfaction she gets from helping others and making their lives better. This quality is what makes her a great hero.

The final characteristic of a hero is caring for others. They help you, listen to you, and guide you all because they love you. Christine cares for me as well as all of my siblings. She would never let anything bad happen to us and she would do anything for us. Even though I’m not the greatest daughter at times when I’m being disrespectful or I don’t clean my room, I know she loves me regardless. A hero loves unconditionally and only wants what’s best for you. This is exactly what my mom does. She provides food for us, she does our laundry, and she spends quality time with us. She will forever be my hero because she is so caring.

Most people’s definition of a hero is someone who is caring, helpful, wise, and strong. Christine is the greatest hero because she has all of these amazing qualities.

Okay. You've stumped me. The truth of the matter is that I don't really like this essay very much, but I really ought to! There's nothing especially wrong with it. It's a reasonably well articulated explanation of why you think your mom is a hero. I suppose the reason I have a problem with it is that I have a completely different conception of heroism. You are talking about someone doing average everyday stuff with a generous and self-sacrificial spirit. I think of heroism as extraordinary, not ordinary. There are thousands of Christines on the planet doing the kind of (usually thankless) everyday stuff you credit your mom with doing. Perhaps it is naive of me to think so, but I think caring, helpful, self-sacrificing moms are all over the place. Sometimes they even turn up in universities complaining to teachers about their children’s grades. Very annoying!

So, if anything is missing from your essay, I think it is an acknowledgement of the fact that you are explicitly making a hero out of an ordinary (if good) person. It's legitimate to do that, but you do it as though it were the most usual thing in the world to do. I think your essay would have greater substance if it made an argument out of the very thing that I consider its weakness. I'm probably wrong about that weakness, after all. There probably is good reason for saying that this person, your mom, is as much of a hero as the apparently exceptional characters from the history of the literature of heroism whom we tend to valorize. So why not make an argument of the thing that seems, for you, to go without saying. That is, why not acknowledge that you are arguing for a redefinition of heroism so that it includes the ordinary, everyday actions and sacrifices of a mother?
